DOODY'S STAR RATINGS®

Unique to the Doody’s Book Review process, the Doody’s Star Rating® accompanies each review. This ranking is based on numerical ratings derived from an 18-point questionnaire completed by the reviewer during assessment of the publication. The questionnaire highlights 16 different elements of the title including the author’s credentials as well as the quantity, currency, and pertinence of the references. Essentially, the reviewer weighs each element on a 5-point scale.

The reviewer’s responses are entered into Doody’s Star Ratings system which calculates the ranking against a high of 100 and a low of 20. These numerical scores result in 1- to 5-star ratings.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️  (97-100) Exceptional, nearly flawless execution

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️      (90-96) Outstanding, minor problems in execution

⭐️⭐️⭐️          (69-89)  Very good, usually one or more significant flaws

⭐️⭐️              (47-68)  Average, several flaws (or one major flaw) or significant weakness versus its competition

⭐️                 (<47)  Substandard

Overall, eight percent of the titles have received five stars, while 11% have received two stars or less. The rating system helps ensure that each review is fair and objective. Incorporating quantitative and qualitative analysis, Doody’s Star Ratings® are recognized for their timely, expert and unbiased approach to rating medical publications.
