DOODY'S SPECIAL TOPICS LISTS
Quarterly book lists on timely, multidisciplinary topics to meet the information needs of health communities across the globe.
History
First published in October 2020, Doody’s Special Topics Lists are adjudicated book lists on high impact, timely, and interdisciplinary topics that aim to enhance the collection development efforts of health sciences librarians. Published quarterly on topics selected by an Editorial Board of North American librarians, Doody’s Special Topics Lists have addressed topics such as health equity, telehealth, and the cost of health care, among other specialized topics. List Selectors are experienced, Board-nominated librarians and information professionals with a knowledge and passion for the area in which they are selecting.
At the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Doody Enterprises published a COVID-19 Book List to the Doody’s Collection Development Monthly blog. The aim of this list was to offer bibliographic and expert review information for titles that may be helpful to first responders, clinicians, nurses, public health professionals and the librarians that serve them at the point of need. The list is comprised of 51 titles in public health, infectious diseases, emergency medicine, hygiene, respiratory medicine, and other fields that are most relevant to the pandemic response.
The response to this book list was overwhelmingly positive, from both health information providers and librarians. Industry partners helped share the list with new audiences and some even integrated it into their own workflows and product offerings. This experience prompted us to develop lists of books on a regular basis on timely multidisciplinary topics to meet the information needs of health communities across the globe.
