LIBRARY BOARD OF ADVISORS

From its inception in 1993, Doody Enterprises has consulted with its Library Board of Advisors to create new products and services that meet the information needs of medical libraries. In 2004, the Library Board of Advisors unanimously recommended that Doody Enterprises develop a core title list when the Brandon/Hill Selected Lists were discontinued. More than any other source, the Library Board of Advisors was responsible for developing the concept and ultimate look and feel of Doody's Core Titles, and more recently, Doody’s Collection Development Monthly. And in 2020, members unanimously approved the proposal to create Doody's Special Topics Lists and an affiliated Editorial Board.

The Board convenes at least once a year, usually in conjuncton with the Annual Meeting of the Medical Library Association, and frequently throughout the year through webinars and conference calls.

Check out what the board members have to say about Doody’s

“I volunteer to serve on the Doody’s Library Board because I believe in the quality products Doody produces. In addition to providing essential services for librarians, Doody’s is a true friend and ally of libraries. I would not be on the Board if I believed otherwise.”

Jim Bothmer, MLS
Creighton University School of Medicine (Retired)

“I have seen firsthand how hard the Doody’s team works to meet the changing needs of libraries. They listen not only to their board members but also to medical librarians across the country. They are committed to providing services that save us time, keep us informed, and help us maintain quality collections.”

Lynda Hartel, MLS
Health Sciences Library, The Ohio State University

“Librarians should know that Doody’s is in their corner. We tend, as a lot, to be skeptical of vendors. Doody’s services really are ‘for’ libraries and librarians.”

Jim Bulger, MLIS
Allina Health

“If you have a problem with any Doody product or service — call or email them. They are quick to respond and remedy an issue for you. Since Doody’s is a small organization, they respond quickly to users....The Doody staff, all of them, are very approachable at conferences and are attuned to trends in librarianship and publishing.”

Jeff Coghill, MLIS, MA
Laupus Health Sciences Library, East Carolina University

“I volunteer to serve on the Doody’s Library Board of Advisors because I believe Doody’s products provide essential, excellent, and high-quality services for librarians.”

Jie Li, MLS
Charles M. Baugh Biomedical Library, University of South Alabama (Retired)

“I have been working with Doody’s since 2001, first serving as the Library and Information Science Editorial Review Group Chair for Doody’s Review Service. I also have served on and off as a selector on Doody’s Core Titles since its inception in 2004. Over the years, I have written several book reviews for Doody’s Review Service. When the opportunity to serve on the LBA presented itself, I immediately pursued it. I have the opportunity to advise a publisher that I not only know well, but also respect.”
